Though I've been faithfully working on my Jasmine Gothic Victorian, hubby and I took a break this past week and drove out to California to watch the tennis matches at Indian Wells. While there, I opened my purse and dropped our camera onto the cement walkway. Yep, totally broken...head hung in shame. So, I have a new camera on the way and hope to be able to use it late next week. Can't believe I dropped it...sigh of all sighs.
Will post updated photos, soon, I hope.

Thelma,
Sorry about your camera but hope the trip was relaxing and enjoyable. A good break is something I look forward to in the near future. The color choices are very nice.

I’m getting more work done on my Jasmine Gothic Victorian dollhouse. Wow…I thought I’d made most of my mistakes on my Little Ann Cottage…I guess that was wishful thinking. This kit is lots of fun to put together. I haven’t had any warping problems with the wood, which I did with the Little Ann Cottage kit. I’m really enjoying the wood Leonard uses in his kits…quite easy to work with. One thing I’d wish for, because the 1:48” scale is so tiny, is that the door frame wasn’t completely assembled. The reason I say this is that the wood they are cut from needs to be sanded and with the doors already inside their frame, it is next to impossible. In the larger scales it probably wouldn’t be a problem. I really fretted about using the stairs. I loved them, but really wanted extra rooms, even more. So, I’ll put them aside for another day. Oh, and Leonard, one set of stairs was broken a bit during shipping. When they get put together for packaging, maybe you could insert a piece of Styrofoam to give each glued railing a bit of support. Just a suggestion. I found that I wanted to cut off the bottom end of all the wall tabs, just a smidgen, because they fit into their grooves better. I don’t mean the tab sides…they are perfect. But, to keep the “seam” from showing, they need to be just a tad shorter for a closer fit. One of my own major mistakes was that I got glue happy and glued in the floors and ceilings before I’d attached the outside porch railings. I had to cut the tabs on one side completely off to fit them properly. That was a very stupid mistake of mine because I knew better. Oh, and one major mistake I’ve made is that I forgot to use one of the pretty front doors on the upstairs entryway. I’ve tried to pry the wrong door off, but I glue stuff fairly permanent. Guess I will give up on fixing that. All in all, this house is coming along just fine. I’m pleased as punch with it and am so glad I bought it. I’m even more glad I built the Little Ann Cottage first!!

Thelma, I love your floors. I am assuming you stain them, and use finish with a varnish. I also like the white trim in your rooms. Looking good!

Hi yourself! Hopefully your kit will arrive real soon. Once it does, don't do what I did...gluing the floors on different days...because the glue hardens and if the next floor isn't EXACTLY lined up properly, it'll be hell to fit the tabs into their holes. This is wholly my mistake, not the design. An example would be where the round rooms are. Even though I thought everything was aligned I found that it was too late to adjust the walls (which looked perfect)after the glue was hardened. Now, I'm in the process of cutting all the tabs to make them more narrow so they fit. Live and learn, the story of my life...ha, ha.
Will you be putting lights into your house? I wanted to, but chickened out...I just didn't know how to go about starting. So, if you do, please, please tell me all about how you did it, what lights you used and where/how you ran them. I know I'm going to be real mad at myself when I'm finished and don't have pretty lights in the house.
I'm looking forward to seeing your efforts with this kit. Be sure and post pictures as you move along...I'd love seeing them.
Are you going to buy another of Leonard's kits...I'm assuming you're doing 1/48" scale? I think I will try his newest one in the next few months...gotta buy it, first.
Back to you and glad you're here!

That is going to be a real problem for me as I am planning on finishing one floor at a time to avoid trying to wallpaper in those small rooms. So I will HAVE to glue them on different days. I havent done the real dollhouse lighting yet, only a strip on the front of my Beacon Hill. I am to scared to try lighting on such a small house plus its a bit expensive, my houses are those budget ones. Hehehe. I ordered the Luan Victorian from Leonard today - I think the price is a steal for such a beautiful house - but it will have to wait as I first want to do this small one. But in the mean time I can build in spirit with you.

I recommend that if you are doing the house a floor at a time to glue the floor and put the roof or next floor on and tape in place, let dry for a day and when you remove it to do work such as wall paper and lighting ect. just put it back on so that you know nothing changed. This has worked for me in no matter what kits I have done to maintain the alignment and come back and work as things dried.
