Hi everyone,
I started my 1/24 scale Little Ann kit last weekend and I have never had a tab and slot kit go together so well in the dry fit!
The smell of my craft room is really enticing now, too. It smells like a wood burning fireplace, which I love. It's like being called in by the kit every time I pass that room.
The wood is excellent quality - no warping issues and no sanding needed. I did have one area where the surface of the wood looked like it had lost a few layers and chipped in cutting, but it will be on the ceiling, which I can patch and will be covering with ceiling paper anyway - so no worries. I'm sure I could have contacted Laser Dollhouse Designs and gotten a new piece easily, but I didn't see the need.
I scored the floorboards and used a gel staining medium mixed with acrylic paint. This is my first time doing floors this way, so I can see room for improvement, but I am happy with how they look. Usually, I approach a tab and slot kit with the plan to cover all the surfaces with flooring, siding, paper clay, wallpaper, etc. This one is different. I love the details and don't want to lose them by covering them up. Also, the kit fit so perfectly right out of the box, that I don't want to have to adjust for the thickness of those coverings and mess up how well the tabs and slots fit.
I can see a little of the wood grain through my exterior paint, but I don't want to sand too much and lose the detail of the siding. Plus, I am using a very light yellow, so even with many light coats, it makes sense that it might show through some. My family says it's not that noticeable and I probably notice it more because I have spent so much time staring at it (loving on it).
The trim on this house is perfection. It is so delicate looking, but sturdy. I love that some of the elements arrive assembled like the front door, the front steps and the fence posts. I'm covering the posts and steps with paper bricks. It is tedious, but inexpensive and looks good so far. I'll take some pictures to post later when the sun comes around to this side of the house.
Well, that's all for now. I am chomping at the bit to get back to my bricks.
Hope everyone has a great day!
