1st floor done. congrats to kellyann for an incredible job. each room is a work of art! i've built two houses from greenleaf, and the difference in quality is ginormous. leonard's product is light years better: the wood is thicker and cabinetgrade; greenleaf's pieces come embedded (scored) in sheets of non-cabinetgrade plywood, which then must be pressed out, which results in many pieces tearing/splintering and which then have to be repaired before you can even prepare them for assembly! leonard's windows are actually something you can hold in your hand, rather than a paper-thin piece of plastic that you cannot hold by the edges which results in fingerprints that are hard to remove since the item is so thin; the ease with which the walls fit into their slots was a new experience for me. with greenleaf's tab/slots, i had to make the pieces fit together by squaring off the corners of each slot and the edges of each tab (evidently greenleaf uses a round router bit to score the pieces); i also appreciate the care taken in shipping the kit. as far as the little number below, i can now concentrate on prepping the pieces only, not on repairing them first, then prepping, then 'making' them fit together.

Looks interesting so far. Do you have a theme for this house?

don't have a theme; thought i'd post some snaps as i go in case someone wanted to see the progression. i don't do anything with the inside except paint/stain. the challenge to me is getting the color scheme right so that the contrast shows off the features of the house, gives it a personality.

It's looking fantastic so far Mark. It's an amazing little kit isn't it?

kelly, i feel like you've painted the mona lisa and i'm working on a stick figure lol. it is a great kit; the two-toned window/door trim you did is very special.

karin, it's 1:12. the dormer is almost done, so then the roof & 2nd floor walls can go on. for me the colors are the whole thing, so i'm keeping fingers x'd i've chosen right.

going to try staining as much as possible in the future, and paint sparingly. have always liked the grain birch has, and it takes a stain so nice and evenly. i even like the contrast between the dark tab-ends and the stained wood. it's tab-and-slot construction, why try to hide it? especially when the tabs & slots fit together so snugly (thank you leonard).

I also love your house Mark, looks great! I have built the Beacon Hill from greenleaf (my only built so far - I think I have started by throwing myself into the deep end). Now I have ordered a few houses - three from Leonard and one more from greenleaf (not as big and overwhelming as Beacon Hill though). Cannot wait to get Leonards houses as everyone on the internet is going on and on about their quality. I think having gotten used to splinters in my fingers from the BH, these houses should be a joy! I have also decided to go with stain for my Jasmin thats on its way. I have already also bought a lot of scapbooking paper (thats all we have available in South Africa) for my houses. Now all thats missing is the houses......
