Hi Everyone! New here and just got my very first house from my kids for Christmas. Thought I'd share my build here and hope you like it or maybe get some ideas along the way. Day 1 . . . Did the dry build to get a feel for where everything goes and how it goes together. Took it apart and started on the first floor. Then not thinking lol, I glued the first floor all together before painting! Actually, it wasn't that bad painting afterwards, just some touch ups here and there. I used Sherwin Williams semi-gloss paint in three colors, a blue, cream and terra cotta. Not sure I'd use this paint brand again . . . fumes give me a headache, I remembered this happening once before when I painted a room in our home with it, and it's very thick, drying quickly. Here's a look at the detail on the porch areas. I created a doorknob using a gold mini brad, sprung open and flattened against the door. Flooring is printed digital scrapbook paper that looks like boards. Next I'll begin adding some extra touches.

Day 2 . . .Painted trim around front door and added some plants. I found a textured woven scrapbook paper and used it, along with some bakers twine, to make a rug for the french door porch. The rug by the front door was a laser cut doily I found at Michaels and cut in half. Added small beads to the stair railing and painted them cream. Found a cut little frog for the front porch steps. Used the textured scrapbook paper to make runner for the stairs and stained the stairs. Next I dry fit and painted all the walls for the second floor, as well as the windows. Only one side of windows get painted, I'll stain the opposite sides. I'm torn between painting both sides of the doors and windows and painting one side then staining the other. The wood and detail on these are so nice that I hate covering them with paint lol. Day 3 . . . Debating on painting all the inside walls cream or leaving unfinished to add wallpapers. Will paint the base of second floor (ceiling side for first floor) cream. Will see how far I get today and will update later. Teri

Well, I learned a LOT wiring the first floor of my house and think wiring the second floor will be a lot easier! Not as hard as I thought it would be but truly does a number on one's hands lol. Here's a look at the final modified layout, wiring and room finishes. Because of my kitchen sink furniture piece, I had to modify the wall moving the doorway to the opposite end and making the wall longer. I've used a double layer of medium weight chipboard to create the new wall. I've also left out the wall by the stairs (stairs not added yet), to make the kitchen larger. I've used scrapbook papers for my flooring and wallpapers. Some were used as is while others were scanned into my computer, sized and then printed on 110 white matte cardstock. A clear spray sealer was sprayed on all printed papers before use, to protect them from the elements. All papers and flooring were attached with 1/4" score tape making it easier to remove if needed. The score tape holds as well as glue and will not dry out letting the paper release after time. I found the white area section of the fireplace for 1.50 at a local craft store then added medium weight chipboard to create the upper section. A printed wood paper was used on the upper section and mantle top. The white area was painted with acrylic paint then distressed with Vintage Photo and Black Soot Ranger Distressing Inks for an aged look. I broke up some sticks from the yard to create wood inside the fireplace. Baseboards were created with medium weight chipboard cut to 1/4" in height then stained with an Alchohol ink marker or painted with acrylic paint. The kitchen has a combination of a regular dollhouse wallpaper and printed papers. The bay window area was painted a solid color, in acrylic paint, to coordinate with the wallpaper. Till next time . . . . on to the second floor WOOHOOO!

I really like what you have done so far. The fireplace looks great and so do the kitchen cabinets. Looking forward to seeing more pictures. Do you have pictures of the wiring? That is the part that scares me. I am working on the Leon Gothic on the first floor. Can't make up my mind about how to do the wiring so I am kind of stuck. I also like the wallpapers.

Hey agavey, here's a few of the wiring. It was a bit scary at first but easier as I went along. Just find a starting point and move along. I did write in pencil on the walls what type of light was going where and that helped me run the tape lines. I forgot about taking the wiring up to the next floor so you need to decide on that run as well.

I just realized that you are working in 1:24 scale when I saw the pictures. I have done this type of wiring in my 1:12 scale builds but I am now working on 1:48 and don't know where to begin with the wiring. I am so focused on 1:48 scale right now that I completely missed that you are not working in that scale. However, I really like what you are doing and can't wait to see more. I have a few 1:24 scale builds to do but haven't started any of them yet. I wouldn't even have thought to electrify each floor as it is built. This method would probably make it easier since the space you have to work in is smaller. I am really glad I asked.

Well, some houses you can wire after all floors are connected but these seem to be on the larger scale ones. With 1:24 or smaller, you almost have to wire each floor then add wallpaper and flooring and trim, then add the second floor base and continue with wiring, and so on. I made the mistake of glueing all the walls on the first floor before painting or doing anything lol. While it wasn't as easy as the second floor will be, nothing glued yet, it wasn't that hard to add the wallpaper and flooring. Has to be easier not having to cut around already installed doors and windows lol.
My problem now is that I forgot to run the tape up through the stair opening to the second floor and I can't find a place to attach a tape run! Gonna take some thinking now.

terih,
if you forgot to run tape just attach a new run and send it through one of the larger slot openings on the second floor base. Once the base seats on the wall tab it will not hurt anything.

Ok here's a current update! Solved the issue with the wiring in a different way, have used a couple different styles of lighting so far . . . battery operated lights, wired-in lights, outlet and plug in light and a pin type place holder light. Don't ask lol, I'm just happy it all works!! All the flooring and wallpapers are up on both the first and second floor and other decorations have been added. I finished the rugs and curtains today and made a tiny little village playset for one room. It's amazing the printable projects you can find online for room accents. Here's a look at the rooms to date . . . The last two pics show where I've created a tool shed on the outside of the house to hide the outlet/plug in lights I've used on the first floor. In order: Kitchen, Library, Living Room, Tool Shed Check the next post for the second floor rooms.
